Maya Thornton
Maya Thornton is an independent investigative journalist and science communicator covering history, public health, human rights, and untold cultural stories. She founded The Verified Post in 2026 to bring evidence-backed long-form journalism to a wider audience. Her work draws on archival research, peer-reviewed studies, and primary sources.
What We Do
We tell the human stories that typically get reduced to footnotes. A forgotten inventor. A pop-culture moment that reveals something larger. A historical figure whose real story has been flattened by retelling. Our articles run 8–15 minutes — long enough to do justice to a story, short enough to finish over coffee.
We do not cover breaking news. We do not give medical, financial, or legal advice. We do not publish opinion columns. We publish narrative nonfiction rooted in primary sources.
Our Editorial Process
Every article on The Verified Post is:
- Researched from primary and authoritative secondary sources — archival press coverage, academic journals, biographies, census records, museum holdings, and established reference works. Sources are listed at the end of each article.
- Written and edited by our editorial team, who verify every claim against original sources. Like most modern newsrooms, we use a range of digital tools — search databases, reference systems, and AI-assisted drafting — as part of our research and writing process. Every published sentence is reviewed, fact-checked, and approved by a human editor.
- Held to a single standard of accuracy. A human is responsible for every cited claim and every editorial judgment. Errors are our responsibility.

About Our Bylines
Some articles on The Verified Post appear under pen names. This is a long-standing practice in journalism and essay writing. Pen-named articles are still written, edited, and fact-checked to the same standard as signed ones, and a real human editor is responsible for every piece. What We Don't Cover
To be useful to readers, we stay inside our lane. The Verified Post does not publish:
